Gatik and Cummins collaborate to deploy autonomous driving technology

Gatik, an autonomous vehicle technology startup, has recently announced that it is collaborating with Cummins Inc., to streamline its autonomous driving system integration with Cummins' cutting-edge powertrain solution in the former’s medium-duty trucks fleet.

With this collaboration, the Cummins B6.7 engine will be integrated with its advanced software suite to enable Drive-by-Wire (DbW) capabilities for Gatik's medium-duty (class 6) Isuzu FTR fleet.

The addition of Gatik's autonomous technology coupled with Cummins' powertrain will enhance reliability and increase the functional capabilities of the autonomous system. It will offer superior vehicle performance and improve fuel efficiency of Gatik's B2B delivery routes and short haul.

As part of this collaboration, Cummins will be working closely with the engineering team of Gatik to offer additional technical expertise.

Apparently, Cummins offers powertrain solutions that provide best-in-class performance and fuel economy with the integration of software and hardware.

Gatik is a leader in autonomous B2B short-haul logistics and is the first to launch a completely driverless commercial delivery service with Walmart in 2021.

Commenting on the move, Arjun Narang, CTO and co-founder, Gatik, stated that as the firm moves forward with scaling its product offerings across North America, asserting that the firm integrates its technology with the pioneer Tier 1 company is vital to suffice the rising demand for safe and quick solutions.

Cummins' technological leadership in creating the world's leading powertrains for 100+ years and profound commitment to developing customer-centric solutions for future logistics signifies that the tangible benefits of the work will be recognized immediately across the customer base.

Michael Taylor, General Manager (GM), Global Powertrain Integration at Cummins Inc., added that Cummins is extremely pleased to incorporate its powertrain solution with the automated driving system of Gatik.

The company holds extensive expertise in deploying several applications globally, so integrating the powertrain with self-driving systems like Gatik's will enable the firm's customers to select from the latest technologies to meet their needs.
