Harman, Microsoft partner to drive 5G & smart connectivity innovations

HARMAN, a solely possessed subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has recently declared that its DTS (Digital Transformation Solutions) professional unit has successfully entered a collaboration with Microsoft, enabling it to integrate with Microsoft Azure PMEC (multi-access edge compute).

As per credible sources, the integration will further empower HARMAN to combine network functions, applications, and edge-optimized services for delivering a comprehensive portfolio of high-performance and ultra-low-latency solutions that suffice the contemporary business needs of enterprise customers.

Subsequently, the firm can further fast-track the digital transformation solutions with intelligent connectivity and private 5G networks for enterprises across several verticals.

David Owens, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Digital Transformation Solutions, HARMAN, said that advances in the technologies, like 5G, produce noteworthy opportunities for accelerating innovation around every industry from transportation and healthcare to education and manufacturing.

By integrating HARMAN’s extensive skills and experience in the communications area with Azure private MEC, the firm can now provide a wide-ranging solution to enterprises, added Owens.

Speculations have it that this collaboration has already successfully enabled the digital transformation at one of the largest airports in the United States.

Azure’s private MEC, combined with HARMAN’s proficiency in integration and application services, has supported in transforming the airport’s manual process of cargo handling to one that is IoT-enabled and far more intelligent, mentioned the company.

The airport witnessed a significant improvement in the optimization, efficiency, and general handling of its cargo tracking system, saving substantial resources like operational costs.

Tad Brockway, corporate Vice President of Azure for Operators, Microsoft, said that the hubs of transportation have been among the first to adopt the emerging edge compute capabilities and private 5G connectivity for delivering innovative offerings that deliver services to their business customers, operational teams, and travelers.
