Amidst the ongoing acquisition and partnership season, browser developer and consumer internet brand, Opera has recently announced taking over YoYo Games, for an overall transaction of over USD 10 million.

As per reports, the acquisition demonstrates the building block in the foundation of Opera Gaming, a new division within Opera with ambition and follows the creation and robust growth of Opera’s advanced Opera GX browser.

Through this acquisition, YoYo Games, GameMaker, and Opera GX would unite under the Opera Gaming, laying emphasis on innovating across the gaming, browser experience, and game development. In a statement released by Krystian Kolondra, EVP Browsers at Opera, stated that with Opera GX, the company has adapted its innovative browser tech platform to potentially expand its footprint in the gaming sphere.

He added that through this acquisition, the company looks forward to further expand Opera GX and fuel the growth of GameMaker as an integral of a broader ecosystem, making it highly accessible to novice users. Moreover, Opera is also delighted to continue its synergies between YoYo Games’ products and Opera GX.

Mr. Kolondra, while speaking on the partnership, cited that the team of Opera is delighted to commence working with the employees of YoYo Games. The firm sees GameMaker Studio platform as being an ideal acquisition to support its global ambitions in gaming and help drive traffic and awareness to its Opera GX gaming browser.

While on the other hand, commenting on the acquisition, the General Manger at YoYo Games, Stuart Poole quoted that the company believes that the transaction with Opera demonstrates a massive opportunity for the firm to accelerate fulfillment of the founding vision of GameMaker engine, which aimed at not only building more games but also expanding development within and beyond the game studio.
