India offers huge prospects in EV space, says auto component maker Dana

Dana, a leading supplier of fully integrated drivetrain and electrified propulsion systems in the U.S., has recently said that India offers massive opportunities for the company in the EV sector.

The firm is constantly investing in all its facilities as per demand. At present, it has around 18 facilities in India, including joint ventures and a dedicated EV drivetrain manufacturing facility launched recently in Pune.

Earlier this year, the company made a smaller investment in Switch Mobility to develop electric vehicle (EV) drivetrains with electric commercial vehicle division of Ashok Leyland.

Gajanan Gandhe, Head of Dana India, said that the firm is extremely bullish in the high-voltage market. It believes to have massive opportunity, owing to which the firm is investing in electrification products and scaling its localization to around 60-70%.

He said that this would help the firm be in the lead for supporting all the requirements coming to India, especially amid the announcement of the PLI scheme in which companies need to localize and invest a certain amount, which Dana is doing already. Moreover, Dana is a frontrunner in electrification, exclusively in the high-voltage section.

Affirming that the growth in electric vehicles is quite expected, Mr. Gandhe said that that even on the LV (low-voltage) side, there are opportunities where Dana supplies to two/three-wheelers and small commercial vehicle -makers, particularly in the last-mile mobility.

The firm believes that switch starts to get businesses in India; the firm will be labeling some of them for most of the products that will be sold like inverters, motors, accelerator powertrain components.

Dana possesses strong technology, lead and localization capabilities, and local talent for supporting the development of solutions for customers. Hence, it perceives electrification as a major opportunity for itself, said Gandhe.
