In the run-up to the Festive season, India's largest online retailer, Flipkart has reinforced and expanded its supply chain across the country. The purpose is to meet the rising requirements of millions of online customers as well as enabling thousands of MSMEs (micro, small and medium businesses), merchants, craftsmen, and kiranas gain access to the market.
Under this move, Flipkart has added around 66 new fulfillment and sortation centers across India in states like Assam, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, and Chhattisgarh. Other states are Rajasthan, Odisha, Punjab, West Bengal, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.
Flipkart is planning to offer seasonal employment in the festive season for 1,15,000+ people, out of which 15% of hiring will be done among women and disabled people.
Flipkart Group CEO, Kalyan Krishnamurthy commented on the move saying that Flipkart's supply chain infrastructure and technology-enabled digital platform play a critical role in creating thousands of new employment opportunities.
According to Mr. Kalyan, traditional storage may be transformed in a dependable and tech-enabled manner. It also links thousands of local merchants, MSMEs, Kiranas, farmers, and underserved areas to a national market.
Flipkart, owned by Walmart, has reinforced its last-mile reach by installing 1,000 more delivery hubs (DH) across the country. This comes as its premier sale event, "Big Billion Days", is complicated and extensive, and requires capacity, storage, sorting, and packing expenditures.
Sources claim that Flipkart is planning to create jobs in domains like HR (human resource), training, and delivery, which will help in adding employment during the festive season.
As part of its "last-mile delivery partnership" initiative, the company has also extended its relationships with Kiranas, allowing them to join the technology-enabled digital economy.
Mr. Krishnamurthy said Flipkart is driving industry and the economy and assisting its merchants, artisans, and weavers in delivering to even the most remote corners of the country.
