As from yesterday, a prayer movement which has become popular around the world, began their prayers in Seychelles.
The Seychelles Evangelical Alliance, which is an alliance of evangelical Christian churches and ministries of Seychelles, has been operational since 1993 as “Vers le But” which offered spiritual support and outreach to the sportsmen and women in the Indian Ocean Games.
It changed its name to the Seychelles Evangelistic Alliance (SEA) and hosted International Evangelistic crusades such as the Billy Graham Satellite event and the DON Double Crusade.
SEA has extended its alliance from Churches to Christian Ministries in Seychelles. Presently the SEA comprises of the following organizations namely: Pentecostal Assembly of Seychelles, Christ Holiness Church, Grace and Peace Baptist Church, Living Rock Fellowship, Assemblies of God Church, Redeem Christian Church of God, Deeper Life Bible Church, Life in the Spirit Ministry, Hospital Christian Ministry and the Word of his Grace Mission of Seychelles.
The objectives of the alliance are to promote love and unity in the body of Christ; to work together to organise national Christian activities that would be more effective if carried out an inter-denominational basis (1 Corinthians: 13. John 17:4); to promote Christian values among the Seychellois Nation; to serve as a platform to unite all evangelical churches, ministries and organisations; to liaise with the government on any relevant issues; and to be the mouthpiece of the member churches, with the government on any relevant issues.
For the past six years SEA has been joining the rest of the world in commemorating the Global Day of Prayer. A prayer movement which started in South Africa but which is now observed globally by the Evangelical Churches community.
In Seychelles the event was normally celebrated for one day in a Unity Service during which the Member Churches joined together for a unity Service. Since 2012 the SEA has taken this Activity to four days during which members are asked to fast mainly on solid and to meet for about three hours and pray mostly for Seychelles.
Different topics are brought before the throne of God in prayers, such as the Government of Seychelles, Education, Health, Youth, Witchcraft, Economy, Employment, Religion, Spiritual Warfare, families, other social ills and the spiritual climate of Seychelles.
The programme began yesterday Thursday 16th, and continues today Friday the 17th May at the Pentecostal Church Riverside from 4.30-6pm. Saturday 18th from 3-5.30pm at The Redeem Christian Church Of God at Les Mammelles and Sunday 19th for a Unity Service at the NSC Hall Roche Caiman from 9.30-1pm.
This year’s theme is “Your Kingdom come and your will be done” (Mathew 6:10). The event is open to all members of the public.
