A 25-member delegation from the Russian Federation was in Mauritius last week on an official visit for talks with the Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Mauritian Chamber of Commerce.

Mauritian exports to Russia in 2017 totalled just over $ 2 million, consisting mainly of canned tuna, special sugars and T-shirts.
In terms of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) Mauritius earned over $4 million last year.
The talks were aimed at consolidating Mauritius as a launching pad for Russians to invest in other African countries. By going through Mauritius, Russian entrepreneurs may benefit from its privileged links with the SADC and COMESA.
The Russian Ambassador to Mauritius, Konstantin Klimovskiy noted that during a visit to Moscow last year, the Mauritian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vishnu Lutchmenaraidoo gave a new dynamism to relations between the two countries.
