A group of Chinese Martial artists from the Confucius Institute based at the University of Seychelles (UNISEY) approached the National Sports Council (NSC), seeking permission to conduct self-defense classes for persons willing to enhance their capabilities to defend themselves if they feel their safety is being compromised.

After much consideration, the NSC has decided to give them its blessing. That being said, the Wushu, a Chinese form Martial Arts and Taiji also a Chinese form of shadow boxing in collaboration with the UNISEY organized an initiation of what these classes entail, via a ceremony and various demonstrations which took place yesterday at the Olympafrica Centre which is situated at the Anse Royale University Campus.

The Chief instructor, and Wushu specialist, Mr. Ru Zhibin explained that the objective of these classes are to strengthen the body, enable proper stance and balancing of body functions. Develop overall all bodily potentials but overall enable the person to protect him/herself whenever they feel threatened. The training program will take place during a period of fifteen weeks and training will take place twice a week. The actual classes will commence next week and members were encouraged to enroll in yesterday’s opening. The Confucius Institute also indicated that it is prepared to conduct classes for individuals and certain working organizations as per request.
With this new development, it is anticipated that the public will at least have a choice with regards to the protection of their personal safety, that of their siblings, children and their assets.
